Aid for Midland

Mediumize is partnering with local non-profit 4OurCommunity to provide aid for Midland through an extension of their Blessing Bags project.

Why Midland?

On Tuesday, May 19th Midland, Michigan experienced catastrophic flooding amid a breach in the Edenville Dam and subsequently the Sanford Dam. Since the breakout of the pandemic, aid has generally been centralized towards coronavirus-related causes. As such, situations such as the flooding in Midland have received drastically less attention and support than they may have only a few months ago. Mediumize, along with many of our partner organizations, have been solely focused on combating the negative implications of COVID-19. While the flooding in Midland was not caused by the outbreak of COVID-19, the pandemic has heightened its negative implications by limiting aid. Therefore, we seek to provide aid for Midland by providing house-hold items for afflicted families across Midland.

What is the Blessing Bags Project?

The Blessing Bags Project is an initiative which originated in Troy, Michigan from the non-profit organization, 4OurCommunity. The following description comes from their webiste:

There are millions of people that find themselves homeless and without access to important day-to-day items. As a result, homeless shelters serve the purpose of providing the homeless with these supplies. However, homeless shelters are finding it much harder to provide homeless people with these basic materials as a result of the pandemic causing them to be very scarce. Therefore, my goal with the Blessing Bag Project is to collect toiletries such as toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, wet wipes, as well as nonperishable food such as chips, beans, and granola bars. Other items that could also be extremely helpful are clothing (even if used), socks, gloves, hats, bleach, and masks. If you have these items, you can simply leave them on your front porch and one of our volunteers will come pick them up and create the blessing bags.

4OurCommunity is re-purposing half of their Oakland County donations to provide relief for Midland amid the most recent floods.
